the Mossberg 500 and the 590 aren't really in the same category to be fair. The Supernova vs the 590 is a much more suitable comparison in my eyes. The Benelli being better balanced and much "nicer", whilst the 590 is built as tough as any gun I've ever seen. if clubbing an elephant to death is a consideration potentially, 590.

Edit: I just checked Mossberg's website and the weight numbers are very close. In fact some 590A1s are lighter than some 590s. Also the 590s only come in 20" but the 590A1s come in 18.5" or 20".

Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) depends do you plan on extending the mag or not.. afaik the only diffrence is that the 500 has the locking nut built into barrel and it screws into the mag tube, on the 590 it slides over and is secured with a nut so you can if you want exted the mag if its registered section 1.
